Belinda Carlisle has had a stunning career. She rose to fame in the ’80s as the lead vocalist of The Go Go’s, the most successful female pop-rock band to date. Their debut album, Beauty And The Beat (1981), was number one for six weeks and delivered huge singles such as We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed. After 4 albums and over 7 million records sold, the band broke up in 1985.
As a solo artist, Carlisle achieved incredible pop stardom. Her second solo album, Heaven On Earth (1987), took her to the next level thanks to lead single Heaven Is A Place On Earth. Carlisle cites this as “the track that really changed [her] life”; not only reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, it was also her first UK number one and led to a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Carlisle’s other big hits include Mad About You, Circle In The Sand, Leave a Light On, and Summer Rain. She has released 8 studio albums, including Runaway Horses (1989), Voila (2007) and her latest, Wilder Shores (2017), which is inspired by Kundalini yoga chants.
The Go Go’s have also reunited on multiple occasions and performed together as recently as 2022: they toured across California last March and played at the Stranger Things Doritos Music Fest ’86 in partnership with the Frito-Lays and Netflix. The band were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
Since arriving in the UK for her Decade’s tour, Carlisle has performed at the Piano Room with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
